Our Clients Say...

'Anthony Howard has created several items of bespoke carpentry within our home, the largest project being a beautifully crafted fitted kitchen. We are, by our own admission, very demanding clients, expecting the highest quality of craftsmanship and Anthony certainly achieved this. He is highly collaborative and obsessive about producing work of a high standard. The quality of his work speaks for itself'

'One of the best pieces that Ashwood ever made for me was the oak writing table that I use daily in my work as an interior designer. It is elegantly proportioned and fits perfectly a period interior but one very discreet and well made detail is that the centre drawer flips out when required to expose a computer keyboard. Anthony was extremely helpful in getting the design to work and with advice on correct period construction. The desk itself is beautifully and soundly constructed - an increasingly rare quality nowadays.'

'Anthony Howard of Ashwood Interior Woodcraft has carried out work for us on a number of projects since November 1992. Amongst other things he has designed and made bespoke furniture for our clerks’ room, conference tables for three different sized conference rooms, and refitted new premises with bespoke cupboards and units. He is creative and his craftsmanship is of a superior quality. Nothing is too much trouble for him or beyond his capabilities. His furniture is solid and long lasting - when we changed the location of our clerks’ room 5 years after it was originally fitted Anthony Howard moved and redesigned the existing furniture and then proceeded to add to it.'

“I first met Ashwood Interior Woodcraft when I moved to a new room in my chambers in Lincoln’s Inn in 1993. When I moved home to a new flat in 2006 I had a large number of books, and thought of a installing a double depth bookcase to accommodate them, initially with the idea of the front shelves opening to reveal a second lot of shelves behind. We decided upon a system of floor to ceiling fitted shelves along the length of the wall (about 15 ft), with a second set of shelves on rails top and bottom in front of them, consisting of three blocks of movable shelving, leaving a movable gap of about one quarter of the length to enable access to be obtained to the books in the shelves behind. The design and construction have been a complete success, and the subject of much admiration by our friends, none of whom, I think, have seen such an ingenious use of space to hold large numbers of books. The whole of the shelving projects less than a foot further from the wall than if it had been a single set of shelves. The shelves, both in my room in chambers and in my flat, are as good as new, and have given me a lot of pleasure from the quality of the wood and the workmanship.

'Anthony’s work is always beautifully made but what is really good about working with him is that he is good at helping you realise your ideas. he spends a lot of time right at the beginning of a project getting to understand what you want and making sure that he and you fully understand the specification and any difficulties. in this way there are none of those unpleasant surprises that you get with people who are less thorough and perceptive. When we wanted a new once in a life time dining room table and sideboard, we had a clear idea of what we wanted (something clean and minimal that showed off the wood grain and the shape of the pieces) and tony was brilliant at helping us translate the idea into a practice, finding ways to solve the technical difficulties and finding just the right shade and type of wood that we wanted.'
